Epigrams

¶ In lamb-white heat, quiet shadows slept. Heavy air glazed the rooftops,
trees, and the day is long, and there are many days.
Elegiac couplet after "Mystery and Melancholy of a Street", by Giorgio de Chirico. December, 2024

¶ Aéginus and Héliogabale
A Ballade after the play by Jean Genet.

The rain falls. Aéginus the Pilgrim enters from darkness,
And from her hood pours forth her flaxen locks.
She has come to drink of godflesh; to take of the wine from
within her lover’s primrose chalice lips,
In soft marble skin to brush the divine,
Where heavens blur the earth. The rain still falls.

The rain falls. Héliogabale the Whore spurns the pilgrim’s prayer,
And on latrine walls, seeks her lover’s scorn.
She has come to spurn her godhead; to meet her martyrdom,
And in her death a plainer sainthood find.
In earthen skin she dreams the altar’s collapse, sun torn from man
at Aéginus’ hands. The rain still falls.

Now, at her hand from heaven hurled, I seek her tenderness
(That grace, which, once, I shunned with haughty tongue),
And find unyielding ice. I am burned in the fire, I am ground into dust,
And scattered on the waters of the sea.
At fate’s whim I die; at hers I am lost.
She will not meet my gaze. The rain still falls.

¶ she's got that kind of 1970s new york city it-girl pervert warhol-wannabe muse body with the soft delicate curves and the flat tummy and delicate skinny arms and zero body hair, smooth skin, soft and warm, and a skinny waist and everything that i tried my best to eating-disorder myself into back in high school. meanwhile i'm sweaty with big hips and musclebound and peppered head-to-toe dark mediterranean stubble, pocky skin with boils and pustules from futile attempts at epilation, a gut, and a stocky build while she is lithe.

Morning Prayer of a Transsexual - After Petrarch, Sort Of

Εκ του ύπνου εξανιστάμενη, με καρδιάν καθαράν ειπέ:

On murky Lanes through Wet and Cold I trudge
O’er Shade of gnarlèd Boughs I lay my Pace
The Paths diverge and set my Heart to race;
Betide me Woe if choosing I misjudge.
In Daytime’s glimmering Rays of Light I bleed
Warm Blots of Scarlet fall on Marble cold
And thus corporeal Lead will stain with Gold;
A Balm my Flesh to soothe in Hour of Need.

Eleison me, o Lord, by Mercy great!
And open up my Lips, to sing your Praise,
Your Kiss upon them, placing, Lord, revive -
in me, anew, clean Heart, and Sin abate,
And guide me, Lord, and Strength within me raise,
In Body's Chrysopoeia to survive.
